More to Come...

Still going through all the photos. Enjoy todays posts and I should get more stuff up in the next few days. SL

Interesting Case of the Week!!!!

This little boy had something very few have seen before. Even Dr. Packer, a seasoned veteran pediatric urologist, makes it clear on the video how rare this is.

If you are still not sure he has essentially a double bladder.

Week in Review - Cases Performed

In all we participated in 18 cases this week.
We performed two cases never performed in this country. We performed the Mace and Monti procedures on one patient. These allow for catheterization of the bladder and cecum for emptying and irrigation. We also performed the first Mitrofinoff and ACE using a single split appendix. Other cases included: Pyeloplasty(3), Nephrectomy (1), Hypospadius (4), Orchidopexy (5), Cystoscopy (3). The cases were all recorded so that in the future these procedures can be performed by the established surgeons in the region. In 2005 Dr Dean performed the first appendico-vesicostomy in Ecuador. Since that time Dr. Ocanea had performed the procedure 12 times, without any major complications. The surgeons, resident, and staff all have a strong desire to learn and try new things in order to improve the healthcare in this country.
